Scope and Contents
This collection contains the files of Marie Selby Botanical Gardens volunteer Leland Desmon relating to the history of the organization and the namesake Selby family. Included are folders of biographical notes and sources on Marie and William Selby, William Minshall, Francis M. Selby, Christy Payne, Grover Yancy, and Juanita Hamilton. Also included are relevant brochures, digital files on CD, photographs, newspaper clippings and magazines.

Biographical / Historical
Leland Desmon was born in New York City in 1920 and was educated at the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in that city as well as the Case Institute in Cleveland, Ohio. After moving to Sarasota he became president of Air Engineering, Inc. In later years, Desmon served as a marketing volunteer for the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.
